Chip shortage to last through 2022 - Arizona Construction offering Hope on the Horizon

          While now it's official.

For some time now people have been debating how long the current computer and graphics card chips shortage would last. However, we now have TSMC (one of the largest producers of chips in the world) indicating that the chip shortage will last until at least 2022.

In addition, one of the contributing factors to the shortage of chips has been crypto currency. Graphics cards had been used as a factory of sorts, to produce crypto currency. However with changes in crypto currency, storage will now also be used by crypto currency factories. Making SSD, and other forms of storage likely to see increased demand moving forward.

I had hoped that Q2 of this year would be the end of the chip shortage, but it now appears that things are going to be tight on supply for CPU, GPU, and likely storage through at least 2022.

In addition to the pandemic, we've also had a drought in Taiwan (TSMC's home country), increased political uncertainty regarding Taiwan, a power outage that cost TSMC an estimated millions of dollars in lost chips.

On the other side of the coin, with the TSMC Fab, and the Intel Fab being built in Arizona, hope is on the horizon.
